Club Policies
Everyone who plays at, watches or visits Harrogate Hockey Club agrees to these standards. Below is a short summary of each policy, with a link to the full version.
Code of Conduct – Senior Players
- Represent the club well on match days, home or away, before, during and after the game.
- Respect umpires. Never argue with an umpire or abuse one, verbally or physically.
- Abuse of any kind on the grounds of gender, disability, race, ethnicity, religion, beliefs or sexual orientation is not tolerated.
- Arrive on time. Let your captain know your availability, and check arrangements with them each week.
- Don't warm up beside a pitch while a game is in progress, and don't go onto the pitch until the previous game has finished.
- Listen during team talks and keep comments positive.
- Pay match fees to your captain without being chased, and pay subscriptions in full by 1 October.
- Stay after the game to host your opponents and help out.
- Don't leave kit bags in the foyer.
Code of Conduct – Junior Players
- Register for every training session, and never go onto the pitch without a coach present.
- Respect coaches, officials, opponents and teammates, and set a good example for younger players.
- No foul or abusive language. Win or lose with good grace.
- Bring the right kit: stick, shin pads, gum shield, astro shoes, and named warm and waterproof clothing.
- Don't train if you're injured or unwell. Tell your coach about any medication or health conditions.
- Tell your manager if you can't play, and never simply not turn up.
- Don't travel to away games in an adult's car without your parent's or guardian's permission.
- No alcohol or smoking on club premises.

Code of Conduct – Parents, Guardians and Spectators
- Be positive. Cheer for every player, including the opposition, and don't comment on mistakes.
- Stand behind the spectator fence, not on the dugout side.
- Leave coaching to the coaches, and stay off the pitch unless the umpire invites you on.
- Raise any concerns with the Team Manager rather than getting into disputes.
- Thank the officials, and be friendly to the other team's parents.
- Take your rubbish home and be considerate to local residents.

Discipline
- A red card, or four yellow cards in a season, means a hearing before the Disciplinary Committee. So do two yellow cards for dissent or foul language.
- The committee is the Club Chairman, the relevant Club Captain and the player's Team Captain.
- Red card cases follow England Hockey and Yorkshire Hockey procedures.
- You'll be told the allegations in writing beforehand. You can bring another member with you and call witnesses.
- Possible outcomes range from a warning to suspension or expulsion. You can appeal to three other members of the Management Committee.
- The cost to the club of dealing with a disciplinary matter is passed on to the player.

Zero Tolerance on Underage Drinking
- Under-18s must not buy, or try to buy, alcohol at the club.
- Over-18s must not buy alcohol for anyone under 18.
- No one may bring or drink their own alcohol in the clubhouse or on club property.
Breaking these rules means immediate removal, suspension, and possible loss of membership.
Juniors Playing Senior Hockey
- U16 A team players are invited to play senior hockey. It's optional, and requires senior membership at £60 a season.
- The club strongly advises against U14s playing adult hockey.
- Parents should be aware that senior hockey is an adult environment, with adult behaviour, language and physical contact.
Safeguarding
The club follows England Hockey's Safeguarding and Protecting Young People policy. Please contact our Welfare Officer, at [email protected] with any concern. You must also contact us before filming or taking photos on club premises.
